Holiday weekend

What a busy weekend! Someone lost a second tooth Sunday morning!

we heavily encouraged the pulling of said tooth as it was rotating all around and just hanging out in the spot. After about half an hour, Harris handed her a tissue and we got her to pull it out on her own. Afterwards we talked about whether it was scarier or actually as painful as she was making it out to be. She agreed that it was fear more than pain and that now it was out, she was proud of herself.

Not as proud as Mommy and Daddy sweetheart.

Our annual selfie watching fireworks outside of the Durham Bulls stadium. This time we perched at Dillard and Pettigrew to try a new view.

We also went blueberry picking on Saturday. We managed to weigh 8 lbs of sweet organic rabbit eye blueberries at the end. Pretty sure the blond ate a pound while we were picking.  This should be enough to get us through summer and fall (frozen) after we gorge ourselves on blueberries for the next several days.

31 weeks pregnant although, I suppose with the dress and angle you can't really tell.

Utterly lovely evening to pick blueberries. The weather was cool, the sun setting as we picked, a nice drive there and back. Blueberry picking could be my favorite of the 'pick your own' in NC.

reflecting, thinking about what's next

Reading through the blog, mainly to look at the ruin that was our house and the wee little babes that were our babies, now walking, running, yelling girls and found this from January 2016 What's left - the girls bathroom, master suite, sunroom, tile patching in 2 bathrooms, butler pantry. Summer kitchen. Landscaping. We've completed the girls bathroom, butler pantry, and landscaping. The sunroom is ALMOST finished. After living in the house with three girls we've changed plans a little bit for the remaining work. We're opting to turn what would have been mine and Harris's bedroom, closet, and bathroom into a bonus room of sorts. We'll also leave the wall there and add the washer/dryer upstairs and some desk space so the girls have a place to work. We also will build a general storage closet up there so clothing doesnt have to go up and down to the attic each season. We've also decided we need a shower upstairs, so the clawfoot that is in bad shape up...

Kitchen design

Our overall budget for the kitchen is ~ 7,500 (including appliances, cabs, and counters). The reason we're scaling back on appliance buying for now, focusing on waiting for crazy deals, etc, is because our plans have outstripped our budget. We will have a beautiful kitchen with the appliances we want, but we're not going to go into crazy debt to get it there. we're getting the cabinents from IKEA and using their handy 3-d kitchen designer, this is what we've come up with so far. No, we're not painting the walls blue, I just couldn't figure out how to get the woodwork pattern to show up without having it blue.  This is what you would see from where the back door with sidelight currently is   We want a side by side fride with water/ice in the door and a bosch dual convection wall oven on the right cabinet.  The gas cooktop will go under that hood, giving us enough counter space on either side of the cook top. And if you entered from the butler's p...

Budget

Dad was asking about the budget and how we're doing so far. Initially we had a total budget of about $350k for the house. As we negotiated the purchase price up and found more information about what the house needed that budget went to a maximum of about $415k. As of today, we anticipate spending around $400k or ~$111/sqft. As a comparison, Oakwood cost us $90/sqft and we sold for $106/sqft and the new owners are doing all kinds of neat stuff we dreamed about doing. So far we're under budget in a couple of areas, within budget but ahead of schedule in some (which can also be read as over budget...) and just going to be way over in a couple of key areas. Our original plan including making a temporary kitchen that we could live with, but would be massively overhauled within a year or two. Instead we decided to do it right the first time and enjoy it the entire time. To this end, our temp budget for cabs, appliances, and counters, was initally $5,600. However, that's g...
