Exterior in the morning

Yep. That's how much eastern light floods our house, you can't even see the new wood on the upstairs porch. These pictures just make me happy; I'm definitely a 'house should face east' kind of gal. The exterior carpentry will be totally done today. As of this afternoon - hell, maybe right now- there is no rotten wood on the outside.   Once we have more money...PAINT!         New slate up top, repointed chimneys, metal roof on the porch, chimney caps, wood rot fixed, chicken wire screens removed and gutters. Lots and lots of little things.

Color

It's swatched on the house and I like it!  Ignore the purple, that will be painted over with some trim colors soon.

gas leak 2015

While changing Margot's diaper in the middle of the night, Harris woke up and I asked him for some tea.  Upon returning with the tea he says, huh, the whole downstairs smells like gas. Quick call to PSNC and an hour wait later the service guy shows up. Checks every appliance and they are fine. Goes into the crawlspace and OH BOY there's a gas leak. Some section of pipe is bad and will have to be replaced. Our gas (and thus heat) were shut off around 4:30 this morning. We're currently waiting for the service tech repair guy to show up. Guess who has pipe insurance!!! Also, because it's that kind of day, the truck won't start. Editted to add - we now have heat again and a closed gas system. Can't wait to see what the bill is this month. Who knows what's wrong with the truck.

You did it all, backwards, in the same year...

Recap of 2014! Got married  - October Had a baby - September Broke an arm - September Started kindergarten - August Went back to school -  May Major house rennovation restarted - May Sold some property - April Took a new job - January And where are we on the house... The roofwork is looking good. We restored the slate roof and added gutters. We finished the plaster upstairs, added HVAC, added tile, actually...it's kind of hard to remember all of the things we did to the house. In showing off the place recently I was startled to realize that a year ago we were living without real heat in three rooms of the drafty old place. Now we can wander around almost the entire place with climate control and have a delicious baby daughter. What an incredible year. And what's in store? Finish tile work in the bathrooms - our tile guy disappeared in August with the job half done. He's too busy for his own good. Finish the trim work - headers, quarte
