wowowowowowow

We have central air conditioning on the first floor. I slept last night without the whir of a window unit in my ear and with a lovely, non-humid, temprature. When I walked into the kitchen this morning, still lovely. We joined a pool yesterday. Yeah, a little late in the summer for it, but whatever. When we got home, Madeline walked by the kitchen vent and said, wow, that's so cold. It is definately NOT refreshing. Oh honey, how could you be so wrong. They will finish the upstairs install next week as the floor sanders are there. Floors should be finished by the 20th and we can get furniture by the 22nd. House is coming along so well!!!

Just a quick spot to track all the crazy

Electricians are there migrating power from the 100 amp boxes to the 200 amp boxes and upgrading the line power. This should be complete today.  Fingers Crossed. ** Mid morning update** Electrical will not be complete until Thursday as Duke Power didn't show up for the switch over. Windows... I think Ben is waiting for a sash? We have three windows that are partially finished and three that are fully finished. He's been incredible dealing with the unexpected. Zinc windows  - David took those last week. They should be repaired and rehung in the next month sometime. Plaster - today since there is a lack of consistent power they will be scraping and preparing the girls room. girlS room, how friggin cool is that.  Bill and Harris cleaned out the last bedroom upstairs, so all three can be done if there is time. Finish coat plaster will start tomorrow in the suite upstairs, then they will do the girls room next week, then the final bedroom the following....

Weekly wrap up

Harris installed a ceiling fan in the bedroom this weekend which is amazing awesome.  The upstairs is hot - we have only indirect heat up there and you can walk around in short sleves. We're going to have the HVAC people come back out and experience this so they can modify their HVAC quote.  What they were proposing before was incredibly oversized considering the heat retention in the house. Anyway, heat rises, so our lovely warm morning heater was pushing all this lovely air up to the ceiling. The fan pulls it back down making the room feel centrally heated. It's amazing.     This morning our kitchen looked like this     And now, it looks like this....     Remaining for the kitchen   1. Tile or otherwise fix the chimney so it's pretty. 2. Install kitchen sink faucet 3. Install knobs and pulls for doors and drawers. 4. Install trim around windows 5. backsplash? Back...

Not so bad

The repair guy from PSNC yesterday was able to fix both Warm Morning heaters yesterday for about $500. This fee also included his checking all of our other appliances for gas leaks.  We have no gas leaks!!  And now that the warm morning heaters are fixed the rooms are warm! Huzzah!! It's a learning experience. The upstairs is much warmer right now than the downstairs. This is good information for when we have the HVAC installed later in 2014. We also need to stay in the habit of closing doors to rooms when we leave them and being aware of drafts etc. Maybe we'll get some little area rugs or something.  Our larger goal is to feel moved in by December. This will mean our boxes are unpacked - we're not constantly searching for things or tripping over things, and that we feel ok living here. There's some trim work, some sash work, and set up to do, but if we do a little each night we'll be finished with it all soon enough. we've been eating out a lot. When our...
