Planning for the fall

The summer has gotten away from us. We planned to be PRODUCTIVE! and finish the playhouse for the girls and swingset by the end of June. Then we realized that the back fence area needed to be dealt with by our adjoining property owner, which destroyed the fence, making putting girls in that space a very bad idea. We're still waiting to hear from the church about whether or when they are taking down the huge tree that's leaning over their building since that impacts us fixing the fence.

And then there's the flooding at the little house. We replaced ducts in early July to have them wash away and damage the unit in a massive storm. We're waiting for insurance (WE HAVE FLOOD INSURANCE) to tell us how much they will pay then we're moving hvac to the attic. And then putting on a new roof as well. It's going to be great. Our property taxes on the house tripled as well, so this year, the house is just a loss for us. Overall we're in the black, but we've owned the house for 14 years so it would be horrible if we weren't overall.

We still need to finish Little Pebble Creek, there's about a days worth of work there arranging the downspout, weeding, mulching, and making sure everything is working as we want it to work.

And we're trying to plan to get the girls bathroom - for which we've had materials waiting on hand for over 2 years, finished. It would involve painting, some demo, putting a tub where the shower is, stuff like that.

And trying to figure out when/if/how we ultimately build the closet in the girls room. Margot is almost two, we should have her clothes is something other than plastic bins in the dining room. the bins are pretty, but really. I have a bunch of dress up clothes for her from Madeline in the attic that I can't get down because Madeline uses half of the pretend rack for her own clothes storage. We've finally just hit the breaking point there.

Maybe some or any of this will be resolved by fall.

a second kitchen design

Taking into account comments, good ideas, and original plans I think we have a new contender. No, before we hadn't thought about where the microwave would go or the trashcan. :) Originally Sara had us putting the range on the chimney and running counters all around it. We couldn't figure out how in practise that would work and started dreaming about dual ovens and cooktops in counters and all sorts of things that are fancy and pretty, but not really needed for how we live now or plan to live later.    This one gives Harris a gas cook top and me a convection oven. Dual fuel from bosch and we're both happy.     It also creates two separate work stations on either side of the range and will fit around the door that will exist for the next year, but not forever. I like that this way we're not building out something that will have to be torn out in 12 months. I really really hate that.   ...

Bill's new smile

Before reading this, know I have Bill's full permission to share. Most of my friends know Dollar Bill is my daughters' self-proclaimed godfather. The girls run in delight when they hear him approaching calling their names. For our youngest, he's decided she goes by her middle name, asking for little Hillary. What you might not know is that this summer he's experienced some hardships that require surgery. His remaining upper teeth have suddenly failed, making eating, talking, chewing difficult for him. He also doesn't smile as much anymore. Bill had some dental work done when he joined the Navy in the 80s. They pulled teeth and left him with partials that have now failed. The VA won't fix this for him and he doesn't have dental insurance. While you can't see his teeth, his roots are intact - necessitating surgery before he can get dentures. A reputable local dentist  has examined Bill and come up with a plan of treatment to remove his root...

reflecting, thinking about what's next

Reading through the blog, mainly to look at the ruin that was our house and the wee little babes that were our babies, now walking, running, yelling girls and found this from January 2016 What's left - the girls bathroom, master suite, sunroom, tile patching in 2 bathrooms, butler pantry. Summer kitchen. Landscaping. We've completed the girls bathroom, butler pantry, and landscaping. The sunroom is ALMOST finished. After living in the house with three girls we've changed plans a little bit for the remaining work. We're opting to turn what would have been mine and Harris's bedroom, closet, and bathroom into a bonus room of sorts. We'll also leave the wall there and add the washer/dryer upstairs and some desk space so the girls have a place to work. We also will build a general storage closet up there so clothing doesnt have to go up and down to the attic each season. We've also decided we need a shower upstairs, so the clawfoot that is in bad shape up...
