lack of garden

This will be our first year without a real garden in a long time.  I'm thinking and plotting of what I want the overall garden to look like - where will fruit trees grow? Where will the honey bees live? Where will cut flowers thrive and where can we get to the kitchen vegetable and herb garden easiest. But all this planning means I don't get to plant little seeds or plants, or weed and water, or putter around in my shabby pajamas early Saturday mornings marveling at everything growing and thriving and loving the sunshine. Instead, I will oil my tools, make garden maps, decide which trees have to go (the weird bean pod tree shrubs, not the actual trees) try to get rid of the prickly pear and any remaining fire ants,  and enjoy the one bed I have right behind the fence. The tulips should come up in another 3 weeks, when they are done, we'll plant any tuberoses that survived.

Birthday fun

Typically, Madeline's birthday party is a fun afternoon affair where kids run screaming around the house being silly and making a mess and the adults congregate eating food and patching boo boos.  Our house being what it is, we decided to outsource the fun to a local bowling alley.         Madeline with her birthday cakes     Couple of kids bowling with the push ramps.       The kids were so utterly excited by the idea of BOWLING! By about frame four they were done, everyone just started taking turns on different lanes, and generally being silly. By the end, the kids were watching and the grown ups were actually bowling.   She had a blast. Fun things in addition to huge bills do come our way.

hahahahaha that's cute

We can has asbestos? YA! YOU CAN HAS ASBESTOS! :not happy: We're getting an estimate for remediation now. We were going to focus on getting the HVAC installed then said, hrm- that old plumber who was out said every one of these old houses has asbestos, because he used to work on the boilers - let's make sure we don't have asbestos before we start heating and piping air through the house. Oh guess what! We do!  It's in several places around the crawl space, basically following the path of the old steam radiator pipes. They are going to have to cut the metal out of the crawl space, dig out the dirt in places where it's already fallen from the pipe and then do some negative pressure thing with the air. So. Yeah. Also, we found some weird wires that we're going to have looked at next week. We're getting our tax credits back over the next 4-6 weeks so were planning how we would spend the money. Looks like...more non-sexy things that are most defin
